- Parameters of healthy life
"If i would be a young man again and had to decide how to make my living. I would not try to become a scientist or scholar or teacher. I would rather choose to be a plumber or a peddler in the hope to find that modest degree of independence still available under present circumstances."
Profession is a type of job that need special training or skill, especially one that needs o high level of education. Likes and dislikes differ from person to person. Choosing a profession is not as simple a thing as its looks like. Different factors attract to diverse directions.
It is a common trend in our society that most of the people want to become doctors, engineers, civil servants or military officers. In fact, these are lucrative jobs. Finance and personal liking are two main decisive factors in this regard. Socially financial aspects is overwhelmingly dominant because sound financial condition is considered the key to happiness.
Anyhow, there are some forgotten facts in this connection. One thing is that money on disposal does not necessarily satisfaction. There are some other thing conducive to happiness. Profession of choice may give inner satisfaction. On the contrary, a person may feel strain if he does not like his profession.
If we see the global parameter of a healthy life, we come to know that the working time is the most important thing that the modern world consider inevitable for a happy life. In most of the third world countries, there is no concept of enjoying life. There the people remain busy the whole day in doing jobs. They do not have leisure to enjoy life. In "Conquest of happiness" Bertrand Russell emphasized to indulge in the work in which you take great interest.
In fact all types of workers are needed to make the world go. So no work is less important. The only advisable thing is that one should choose the job according to one's taste and aptitude. It is possibles only then that one will serve others whole-heartedly. Another important factor is that the hours of work should allow a man to lead a comfortable and relaxed life. He should not be burdened with overwork. Robert Frost sarcastically said,
"By working faithfully eight hours a day, you may eventually get to be a boss and work twelve hours a day."
Unfortunately, most of population in our country is afflicted with overwork. Workers in a private sector are singularly badly hit. We should prefer those jobs which may provide us with basic needs of life and allow us maximum leisure to enjoy life.
